Dental Practice Interior Design

The importance of aesthetics

Today's dental practice tends to be developed very differently to years gone by. The move towards the importance of aesthetic treatments, and practices being photographed for marketing purposes has meant a shift in importance on how practice look and feel.

With this in mind Hague Dental Supplies works with you to consider your space; considering functionality and aesthetics.

Developing spaces that considers your team

The industry requires practice owners to create environments that function well for their team, but that will also wow potential new staff in these difficult-to-recruit times, but also to appeal to the discerning patient who in recent years realise they have a choice in where to go.

Our team understands the importance of creating a special environment from both the patient and staff perspective.

Ensuring current dental and build regulations are met

With over 25 years experience in designing and refurbishing practices, we understand the requirements of CQC, HTM01-05, and building standards.

Whether this be for DDA compliance, DSE, RPA, fire or building regulations approval, our team have the knowledge to ensure your refurbishment ticks all the boxes.

Clinical spaces that work ergonomically

Our team of surgery design experts will consider the ideal layout, patient and clinical teams workflow, type of dentistry being performed, and of course the preference of how you, or an associate, likes to work.

Taking all this into consideration we can support you in your choice of dental chairs, and cabinetry selection. Then we work with you to consider the aesthetics, lighting, flooring and any further features of the room.

Space planning for dental clinics in the UK

From the moment your patients arrive they sense the professionalism

From the moment they step up outside, your patients want to feel confident that they have selected the practice that's right for them. Exterior features and entrances, signage, and displays are considered.

Whether you are looking to develop a new brand or rebrand, our team can support you in bringing all these design elements together, as well as ensuring you have what you need for planning permission.

Waiting areas that not only calm but give your clients confidence

Creating a welcoming reception and waiting space is key to how your patients feel about their experience when they visit.

In consultation with you we consider the patient workflow and ergonomics of all the dental team. Once we have the layout we work to style the space and fill it! With trade accounts for desks and seating, specialist suppliers for feature walls and signage we ensure we have solutions for all budgets.

What we do

A multi-skilled team to support you all the way through the project

More than 25 years of experience in designing, building and project managing dental clinic refurbishment has given us the understanding and expertise to create clinical and non-clinical dental spaces that work on all levels.

Our team consists of interior and CAD designers who consider spatial planning and functionality, whilst the styling elements focus on the furnishings and finishes of the interior. We not only create the design concept, but we have a team that will support you throughout the construction phase of the whole project.

We understand the demands of working around a busy practice or the importance of keeping to schedules when managing a dental build. Collaborating with you to confirm project requirements, budget, and schedule.

Kirsty's Design Approach

Many years ago, when I first started supporting dentists with their dental practice refurbishments, we had a client who had been a long-term dental engineering client and had bought used equipment for the surgeries. Her practice was not in the best location, and she had been talking with me for several years about doing a larger refurbishment. Then one day her husband called me and said they wanted to finally get this project underway. A few weeks after we completed the refurb, I went to see her, and she just burst into tears; she couldn’t believe how it had changed her working life. She hadn’t enjoyed going to work before and it really had changed how she felt about her work. The refurb really inspired her and gave her the confidence to take the practice to the next level. From this project, I became passionate about supporting people to not only create a lovely space for their patience to experience, but it also showed me the power of a 'considered' interior on the health and vitality of a team.

‘We take great pride in delivering a practice that is a joy to be in for your patients and your team.’

Our 6 important considerations when designing a new Dental Space

So often we have seen clients with dental clinic designs that are fictitious, and with layouts that don’t conform to HTM-01-05 or document M – we understand the rules, and our designs give an achievable solution.

1. Represents the staff

4. Ergonomics for the team

2. Reflects the practice's brand

5. Considers Patient Journey

3. Meets legislative guidelines

6. Works to a Budget

How we do it

Our approach to creating dental practice interiors is divided into two phases: the conceptual stage and the design development stage.

Phase 1: Conceptual Design

3D VISUALISATON - Giving you the confidence to take your practice to the next level.

Historically interior designers have communicated their proposed designs through a series of moodboards. We provide our clients with the opportunity to ‘experience’ every inch of the dental clinic design from all angles before they invest in the build; our 3D Visualisation software will allow you to explore all your interior design options before you commit.

Phase 1: Works Completed

Site Survey

Technical CAD layouts

What we do

Full survey of the room or rooms to be refurbished with laser precise measurements.

What we do

Transfer of drawing to 2D CAD plan. This will provide a .dwg format of the structure and partitions for the team and trades to work from.
2D & 3D design - what you need to know

Design Centre & Equipment Showroom

Our unique 4,000 sq ft showroom with a dedicated interior design area offers you a chance to work through plans and concepts whilst being able to see samples and products. Be inspired to take your new space to the next level.

Phase 2: Design Development

Design Breakdown and "Picking List"

So, we have the concept, now to break down the detail, and ensure that our designs are completed accurately and to a high standard.

In this phase, we provide costs for all the interior elements, a room-by-room ‘picking list’ for builders on site, project managers, and other suppliers to work from, and elevations of specific areas. We have trade accounts with many different suppliers to ensure you get the best discounts, however, if other furniture and accessories are required, we can help source these. We will ensure we have time on-site and communicate all the way through the project with you and those involved to bring your new practice to life.

I had the pleasure of working with Kirsty Hague, an outstanding interior designer, who played a pivotal role in helping us visualise and transform our clinic into a beautiful and functional space.  From the moment we engaged with Kirsty, she exhibited a profound understanding of the unique requirements of a dental practice, blending practicality and aesthetics seamlessly. Kirsty’s attention to detail was exceptional. Following our initial meeting, she meticulously curated every element of the design, from the colour palette to the choice of ergonomic furniture, ensuring that every aspect of the clinic not only looked fantastic but also functioned flawlessly.

I wanted to make sure the clinic had an inviting atmosphere. Kirsty skillfully integrated natural light and maximised our space, making the clinic open and welcoming. Throughout the project, Kirsty maintained open lines of communication and was receptive to our input.

I wholeheartedly recommend Kirsty Hague to anyone seeking a top-notch dental practice and interior designer. Thank you, Kirsty, for your exceptional work in creating our stunning dental clinic!

Our Step-by-Step Process

  • (PHASE 1) Step 1: Initial Design Consultation

Our no obligation visit to the practice gives you a chance to meet us and understand how we might be able to support you. In surveying the space we will measure up the area you are looking to refurbish. These will ensure that we have vital information that we would need, should you hopefully entrust your project to us.

  • Pinterest Board at the Ready...
    (PHASE 1) Step 2: Research

The expectation from clients when including an interior design service as part of a project varies enormously Some approach us with a clear vision of the style they are looking for Others prefer that we take complete control, putting a high degree of trust in us. Either way during this first phase of the project we take time to research and understand your personal preferences. This is done through shared Pinterest boards, a questionnaire and further consultation.

  • (PHASE 1) Step 3: CAD Design

So we have our measurements for our first visit, our CAD team work to ensure we have an accurate layout of the space. This will be used for the technical specification moving forward on the build side and for step 4.

  • (PHASE 1) Step 4: Design Concept & 3D Visualisation

Historically interior designers have communicated their ideas through mood boards,  but our 3D visualisation software enables you to take a walk through of every room that you are looking to refurbish. It gives people the confidence to take their practice to the next levelTo experience the space before you invest and ensure before moving forward that it meets all your expectations.

  • (PHASE 2) Step 1: Visit our Design Centre and tying down the details

It is often at this stage that we invite our clients to visit our showroom. Sitting down in our interior design area with hundreds of samples for reception desks, seating, flooring, wall features, cabinetry fronts and tops, through to light switches and sockets. Our team work with you to tie down the detail even further. This will also give you a chance to meet one of our Project Managers that will support you through the other side of the refurbishment.

  • (PHASE 2) Step 2: Picking List

So now we have what we need to break the concept down, to understand all the elements that will need to be costed for in order for the project to proceedRoom by Room we list the requirements needed to meet the design concept. Exploring options to ensure that we offer our clients the best solution within the budget allocated. CAD teams create detailed elevations to ensure that the quotation is accurate and everything fits! This is then passed to trades and suppliers for costs.

  • (PHASE 2) Step 3: Sourcing

We have an extensive list of manufacturers for furniture such as reception desks, waiting room seating, and specialist items such as green walls, panelling & lighting. With trade accounts with quality companies we can ensure you get the best price without having to resort to cheap online alternatives.

  • PHASE III - Step 1: Project Management Handover

One standout benefit of working with our team is our commitment to Project Management. No matter what level of service you choose, we know that our team will help you manage the project to ensure it finishes on time and within budget. During this stage you will be introduced to your dedicated Project team member.

  • PHASE III - Step 2: Logistics & Scheduling

We know that getting the timing right on a reception refurbishment project is essential. Our Project Managers will provide you with a Schedule of Works. This will include clear dates for each of the trades people involved, from beginning to end. Working with the Interiors and Computer-aided design (CAD) team, each element of the design will be specified for ease.

  • PHASE III - Step 3: Trades on Site

And we are off! Trades are in and we are working tirelessly to ensure you have clear lines of communication at every stage. Starting with the builders working on the demolition, plasterers (if needed), electricians, decorators, floorers, and furniture fitters. Pushing through to the end.

  • PHASE III - Step 4: Snagging

Every build project will have an element of snagging. There are lots of reasons why this may occur but rest assured that our Project Managers and team will not sign-off the project until you are happy. Projects such as these change the way practices work and how clients perceive you, so we really hope to exceed all your expectations.
